SAN FERNANDO, LA UNION — Thirty-one frontline responders took their skills to the next level as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), conducted a five-day Basic Water Rescue Training from May 11 to 15, 2026.

Held at the PDRRMO Training Hall and Acapulco Beach, the intensive program strengthened the province’s water rescue capability and enhanced emergency response operations.
Participants underwent comprehensive lectures on Disaster Risk Reduction Management, the Incident Command System (ICS), and Basic Water Rescue Operations. Beyond classroom learning, the training emphasized hands-on simulations and team-based exercises—from rescue swimming techniques to victim approach, retrieval, and survival strategies. These drills honed coordination, communication, and teamwork, preparing responders for real-life emergencies.

The initiative reflects La Union’s proactive commitment to disaster preparedness. By equipping rescuers with advanced skills, the PDRRMO aims to build a highly capable and resilient emergency response workforce, ensuring communities are safer and better protected against water-related hazards.

This training underscores a vital message: preparedness today saves lives tomorrow.
