Rare and historic photographs allow you to step back in time in the Department of Tourism Exhibit Fragments of Memory: Images of Baguio and Benguet (1890–1909). The exhibit offers a fascinating glimpse into the landscapes, communities, and stories that shaped the Cordilleras during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Each image serves as a window into the region’s rich cultural heritage and enduring legacy that takes visitors on a journey into the early years of Baguio and Benguet.
.
The exhibition is made possible through research conducted by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Cordillera Administrative Region (OPA-CAR), under the Office of the President, with the assistance of the Department of Special Collections, Stanford University Libraries.
One of the highlights of the opening program was the keynote presentation by National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik. He enthralled the audience with an engaging performance of storytelling – sharing reflections on history, memory, identity, and culture that brought the photographs to life and left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
The Fragments of Memory photo exhibit is open to the public from August 3 to August 30, 2026, at the Baguio Museum.
The opening was graced by Presidential Assistant for CAR – Assistant Secretary Antonio Tabora Jr. together with representatives from various government agencies, cultural institutions, and partner organizations, including the Department of Tourism – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR), led by Regional Director Jovita A. Ganongan, in support of this meaningful celebration of the region’s shared history and cultural heritage.
