LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Search and Retrieval operations continue for the missing farmer at Sitio Talingguroy, Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet, according to reports filed by the Philippine Information Agency Cordillera.
As of July 31, 2025, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station personnel together with other support units and volunteers continue their search for Nardo Cariño, 68 years old, who has been missing since July 25 after a landslide in the area, reported Debbie Gasingan of PIA Benguet.
She said that Emilda Cariño, wife of the missing farmer, said her husband followed their son to their farm early morning of July 25. They were cleaning the canal to avoid the river water from overflowing and entering their garden. However, a landslide buried Nardo while the son was able to survive.
“Permi adi nga kaya-kayat mi nga mabirukan kuma ta maisimpa met kuma ti nasayaat. Anya ngay ngarud ti mabalin tayo, nu haan a mabirokan ket anya ngay ngarud (We really want to find him so we could properly arrange his burial but what can we do if he cannot be found),” Cariño was said to tell the local media in the vernacular.
Captain Roland Salingsing, acting commander of the command post, said that they will continue the search and retrieval operations.
“Tuloy-tuloy pa rin po naman. Sinusundan nila itong river. Meron pa tayong resources. Tuloy pa rin ang operation, search and retrieval operation (We will continue to follow the river, we still have resources to sustain the operation, search and retrieval operation),” Salingsing said.
