The Mirador Heritage & Eco-Spirituality Park continues to evolve into one of Baguio’s most intriguing destinations—where heritage, faith, and ecology converge in a tapestry of experiences.

A Landmark of Faith and Curiosity

When the Japanese Torii Gate was installed in 2021, it quickly became a social media sensation. Traditionally marking the passage from the mundane to the sacred, the Torii now stands alongside the Lady of Lourdes Grotto, long revered by pilgrims who climb its 252 steps in devotion. The juxtaposition of Catholic Marian devotion and Japanese Shinto symbolism might have unsettled purists, yet it has instead inspired countless visitors to embrace spirituality in diverse forms—whether through prayer or through the millions of photographs shared online.

Paths of Reflection and Renewal

Since then, Japanese-inspired landscaping has softened the rugged hillsides into winding stone paths, connecting six themed adventures for a modest fee. Along the way, visitors encounter:

  • La Storta Garden, echoing St. Ignatius’ vision near Rome, with its minimalist white circular seats.
  • The Peace Memorial, where a bell and the Torii frame sweeping views of the China Sea or fog-draped La Union villages.
  • The Blue Moon Gate, a Chinese-inspired garden portal inviting quiet passage.
  • The Pandemic Healing Memorial, leading to the Holy Family Gardens, where prayers accompany each step.
  • The Founders’ Garden, adorned with sculptures by renowned artists, offering both reflection and photo opportunities.
  • The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, now denser and greener, providing an ecological counterpoint to the limestone terrain.

Accessibility has also been thoughtfully integrated, with wheelchair-friendly paths ensuring inclusivity.

Echoes of History

Few visitors realize that the Jesuit property once hosted weather monitoring instruments in the early 20th century and housed earthquake equipment prior to the 1990 quake. A preserved structure now stands as a memorial to its role in Philippine seismology.

At the Bahay Lourdes, history meets hospitality. Once a hub for long-distance telephone services, the building now houses Café Inigo of Ebai’s Café. Here, guests can savor thin-crust pizzas without paying the park entrance fee. The Sagada pizza, topped with smoked ham (kini-ing) and sweet tomatoes, offers a distinctly Cordilleran flavor, while brewed coffee warms visitors awaiting friends or family exploring the park.

A Destination Worth Returning To

The Mirador Heritage & Eco-Spirituality Park is more than a tourist stop—it is a living, breathing landscape of faith, culture, and ecology. Each visit reveals new paths, new stories, and new reasons to return. Beyond the photographs and the strolls, visitors carry home something intangible yet lasting: a sense of happiness, renewal, and peace.
