Magnitude 4.8 quake jolts Pugo, La Union; causes suspension of Baguio City classes from Kinder to Grade 12

Baguio City – A magnitude 4.8 earthquake was recorded by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, 9 October at Pugo, La Union.
The jolts were felt in Baguio City at Intensity V caused Mayor Benjie Magalong to suspend classes from Kinder to Grade 12.
Intensity III weak tremors were recorded in Aringay, La Union; Bontoc, Mt. Province; and Sison, Pangasinan.
Phivolcs said the quake’s epicenter was located two kilometers northeast of Pugo, La Union, at a depth of 10 kilometers said to be of tectonic origin.
Intensity II (slightly felt) was reported in San Fernando, La Union; Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; and Dagupan City, Pangasinan, while Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) was experienced in Lingayen and Urdaneta City towns of Pangasinan.
Universities in the city were given the option to suspend classes.
According to the Phivolcs Latest Earthquake Information, an Intensity II earthquake occurred west of Tuba, Benguet at 12:16 p.m. while an intensity 2.8 tremor was felt in Camiguin, Island in Calayan, Cagayan. Bogo City in Cebu continues to feel aftershocks in Intensity II.
