Cuba, Kapangan, Benguet — Farmers here are shifting to more profitable root crops like sweet potatoes with the current vegetable price slump.
Rena Geronimo is choosing sweet potatoes stating that a kilo is priced at 60 to 70 pesos. Two to three pieces weigh more or less a kilo and has a longer shelf life of around six weeks when stored properly.
Highland vegetable wholesale prices were on an all-time low this month especially crucifers like cabbage, Chinese Cabbage, and other leafy vegetables. This forced farmers to give their vegetables at a loss with the wholesale price of 10 pesos per kilo in nearby towns and the lowlands.
