Students, researchers and other residents of La Union now have wider access to science and technology learning resources following the province’s first mass installation of DOST STARBOOKS.

The initiative, launched Aug. 26 at the La Union Provincial Library (LUPAC) Building, is a partnership between the Provincial Government of La Union, the Department of Science and Technology–Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), and DOST Region 1.

In a press release, the La Union provincial government stated that the Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) provide free digital learning resources that can be accessed even without an internet connection, making them particularly useful for students in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).
Its resources include K-12 learning materials, educational references, study guides, STEM materials, research content and interactive tools.
Provincial Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega is supporting the initiative and pushing for the installation of STARBOOKS in various local government units across the province.
