Barangay uses coffin as warning signage

Coffin located at the dangerous site along road with most accidents.

By: Dave Leprozo, Jr., with reports from Barangay Captain Rey Tello

Ambuklao, Bokod, Benguet , July 5,2026 — A stark and gruesome reminder for motorists along the Baguio – Nueva Viscaya National Highway on road safety awareness was a coffin. According to Ambuclao Barangay Chairman Rey Tello and officials they decided to install a coffin as a signage to advise drivers plying the Baguio City – Nueva Vizcaya National road to be careful because of the circuitous route with winding, steep shoulders, and deep ravines.

Tello hopes that motorists will be more cautious in passing through the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road, particularly along their barangay, after placing a coffin at a portion of the national highway in Barangay Ambuklao, Bokod, Benguet the is prone to accidents. Several road mishaps have been recorded along the road resulting in deaths of drivers or passengers.

Aside from motorists, Tello is hoping that the coffin will scare people who are throwing their garbage waste along the national road as well as stray cows, which may also cause accidents, as they are also becoming a nuisance. He asked the public to do positive actions, as they do not intend to offend or disrespect anyone; rather, it is a symbolic reminder of the importance of road safety and discipline and the consequences that can result from reckless driving.
