Can Art Heal?

By: Art Tibaldo

Artist Roland Bayan observes the articles at Art Tibaldo’s Aart Gallery and Newseum.

John Lennon’s Imagine, Thomas More’s Utopia, and Pablo Picasso’s Guernica were all born from war, hunger, and human greed. Yet each one dared to dream of something better. As an artist, I ask myself: is it really pointless to imagine a community free from those burdens to include mental stress?

Fellow artists and creatives visit the exhibit of Upcycled artworks at Wright Park Place.

With creative healing, remedial methods and willing partners, I believe the answer is no.

Former DOT Regional Director Venus Tan views artworks made from discarded things at the Made Here Artisan’s Studio.
Numerous items displayed that are returned to good use from their discarded state.

We may not be comparable in any level with the three greats but they remind me why I’m bent on using art not just to reflect pain and anxiety but to offer relief as diversional therapy. The healing is not really for myself but also for those who are battling their inner self with stressful situations and even considering suicide as an answer.

With yesterday’s interactions at my Artworld and Media Newseum, my visiting friends and I talked about mental health, mind distraction, and diversional therapy.

During the evening event on Circular Community, the Upcycling and Sustainability Exhibit by Baguio’s creative friends at the Made Here Artisan’s Studio at Wright Park Place, I found a good answer to the earlier question. It’s about putting another lease of life to something that is either worn out, discarded and unusable but in a creative manner….upcycling. #Artheals
