Kabayan, Benguet – April 18, 2026 — Unexpected frost, locally known as andap, blanketed Mt. Pulag today, surprising farmers in the middle of the summer season. The icy occurrence, usually confined to the colder months of January and February, damaged newly planted crops at the country’s second-highest peak.
Farmers were caught unprepared for the sudden drop in temperature, leaving vulnerable summer crops exposed to extreme cold. The incident highlights the risks of climate variability in highland farming communities, where weather shifts can quickly threaten livelihoods.
