BOKOD, Benguet – People of this small town who have minimal contribution to pollution know that environmental degradation knows no boundaries. They host the Ambuklao Dam.

On the celebration of its 114th founding anniversary last week, townsfolk gave meaning to their celebration by parading in recycled and upcycled materials.
Students from the 11 elementary and high schools danced on the streets and performed skits showing how pollution worsens global warming.
The town’s main transportation – the tricycle, on the other hand, was transformed into colorful floats that also depicted the townsfolks efforts at conserving resources and preserving their environment. Some floats also highlighted the “pising” – or taro, one of the root crops commonly used as a source of carbohydrates, apart from heirloom rice.
Another highlight of celebration was the Ulat sa Bayan of Mayor Erik Donn Ignacio and Vice Mayor Doroteo Beray, who reported about the LGU officials accomplishments on the first six months of their term.
The officials spoke of the campaign on saving the environment for the anniversary.
