In the true spirit of service and generosity, the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands, District 3790 Cluster 1-C, extended an early Christmas gift to the hardworking linemen and employees of the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO).

The initiative, spearheaded by past President Fernando Tiong and Assistant Governor Anna Liza Chan, was held to express heartfelt appreciation for BENECO’s invaluable service and unwavering dedication to the people of Baguio City—especially during times of disaster and adversity.

“This is our way of giving back and recognizing all BENECO employees who sacrificed and worked tirelessly during Typhoon ‘Uwan’ and other calamities,” said Club President Ponciano Valdez Jr.

“They are the unsung heroes who brave the elements to restore power and normalcy in our community.”

The generous gesture included the donation of 280 bags of premium rice, symbolic of the Rotary’s deep gratitude and solidarity with BENECO’s workforce. What started during the term of past President Anna Liza Chan as a tribute dedicated exclusively to BENECO linemen has now grown into an act of appreciation encompassing all employees of the cooperative.

Joining Pres. Valdez in the event were Charter President Ernesto Panis, Immediate Past President Roderick Bernardez, and other members of the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands—all united in their advocacy of “Service Above Self.”

BENECO’s linemen and staff, represented by Assistant General Manager Art Bacoco, Non-Network Services Department Manager Ramil Rifani, Network Services Department Manager Fraiser Angayen, Audit Manager Wendel Cabson, and CMO Christopher George Tait expressed their heartfelt thanks, emphasizing how meaningful such recognition is for employees who often risk their safety to keep the lights on.

“This is indeed an early Christmas gift,” Engr. Art said. “We are deeply thankful to the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands for recognizing our efforts and being part of our journey.”

For the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands, this act of generosity goes beyond donation—it is a tribute to courage, community service, and the enduring partnership between civic organizations and public servants who keep Baguio bright, no matter the storm.

Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands honors the everyday heroes behind Baguio’s light and power.
