Averting flooding at the City Camp Lagoon similar to the July incident with Tropical Cyclone Mirasol, residents here properly disposed and managed their solid waste. Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed gratitude to all residents for their cooperation in properly managing their garbage which greatly contributed to preventing the flood during the height of TC “Uwan.”
“Unlike before, we experienced no threat of flooding now because of the minimal amount of trash that were removed from the City Camp Lagoon,” the mayor noted.
The community’s collective effort to keep surroundings clean and dispose of waste responsibly was commendable while the city was preventing other destructive incidents as a result the weather disturbance.
“If we keep this up calamity or not, it will be a clear indication of improved waste disposal discipline across the city which has long been our dream along with attaining resiliency and sustainability,” the mayor said.
The city has prioritized proper waste management for cleaner waterways, flood prevention, and good sanitation in its continuing campaign for a clean and orderly Baguio.
Residents are encouraged to sustain this good practice and to be vigilant, especially during the rainy season, to ensure that the city remains safe and clean.
