Hunting for Artifacts: 19th Century German Explorers in the Luzon Cordillera was launched and exhibited at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025 in Main, Germany.
The book published by the Cordillera Studies Center (CSC) and edited by the late Professor Emeritus Delfin Tolentino Jr. tells the story of how 19th century German explorers in the Cordillera collected an astounding number of artifacts and specimens now stored in five museums: Dresden, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Vienna.
Anthropology Professor Analyn Salvador-Amores talked about Hunting for Artifacts along with Claudius Kamps at the Arena Stage in Messe Frankfurt last October 15.
“I know that Sir Del joined us in spirit, both in the launch, and the talk of Hunting for Artifacts at the Frankfurt Book Fair. My deepest gratitude for forging on, and such a perfect timing that this book was selected for this special event! It seems that it has stirred a lot of interests, and challenged the other museums to open up their storage, and encouraged scholars to activate the inert qualities of this Philippine collection from different repositories,” Salvador-Amores shared in her Facebook post after their presentation.
She was also chosen to discuss on the Cordillera and Moro People: Dis/Engagement along with Darwin Absari on October 18, 2025. Here they will talk about the ties that bind the Cordillerans of the north and the Moro of the south and how historically they waged unrelentingly fierce resistance to the Spanish and American colonizers. They will focus on visual and material culture representation as continuing resistance in decolonizing archives.
The Philippines is the Guest of Honor country at the Frankfurt Book Fair which is considered the world’s largest and oldest international publishing event. Around 500 delegates were invited to attend. The delegation was led by Senator Loren Legarda along with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the National Book Development Board, and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
