BAGUIO CITY — Forty pupils and teachers from 13 elementary schools in Baguio and La Trinidad took part in a journalism and photojournalism training organized by the Cordillera News Agency, Inc. (CNA) in partnership with the Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco).
The one-day training, held Sept. 20 at the Baguio City High School Balay Ti Alumni Hall, was conducted in memory of CNA founder Baboo Mondoñedo. It aimed to equip budding campus journalists with practical skills in newswriting and photography.
Participants learned the principles of storytelling, news writing, and photo captioning through sessions led by UP-Baguio Assistant Professor Leia Castro-Margate, journalists Jane Cadalig and Frank Cimatu, and veteran photojournalist Dave Leprozo Jr.
The event was supported by Beneco through Board Director Joseph Zambrano, who, in his closing remarks, encouraged participants to pursue their passion for truthful storytelling.
CNA Vice President Lilian Oliva said the training sought to mold young learners into effective writers and critical thinkers while honoring Mondoñedo’s legacy of community journalism.
